This series of photographs on “The Builders of Futuna” transports us to the heart of a small and little-known Pacific island. A tiny fragment of France lost in the vast expanses of the ocean, halfway between New Caledonia and Tahiti. Even in Noumea, these Polynesian neighbours remain somewhat of an enigma.

As if the peoples of Oceania had been sundered by history and oceans. But the disparate islands of this invisible continent are linked by many ties. By delving into the daily lives of the builders of Futuna, my project was to create a vision of their world and bring
